_MG_8379When copywriter Tina Haver, 26, and Indy Week music editor Grayson Currin, 30, (left) get married on June 8, they’ll do it in a style all their own. The ceremony, reception – and the after party – will be at the Pour House Music Hall on Moore Square, where the hip, music-loving couple had their first date.

Local band Spider Bags and DJ Jon Yu will play during the reception and party, and the couple will walk down the aisle to the tunes of Nashville guitarist William Tyler. The bride will wear charmeuse Vera Wang; the groom’s suit will be custom-made. Everyone in the wedding party, men and women alike, will wear Tom’s shoes; the men will be in dark jeans.

As for food, both bride and groom are vegetarian but love cheese, so caterer Fiction Kitchen plans a cheese table weighed down by a healthy vat of Capital Club 16’s pimento cheese. Six cakes by Raleigh baker Crumb will take the place of one. The pièce de resistance: An “ice light” by local sculptor Matt McConnell.

Another Raleigh couple, old-fashioned romantics Melinda Matthews and Derek Taylor, (right) plan a more traditional affair on Aug. 9 in Fredericksburg, Va. The groom, 25, an N.C. State graduate who travels 250 times a year opening new outposts of Chi Psi fraternity, and the bride, 21, who begins a master’s degree program in public administration at N.C. State in the fall, will marry at a Southern Baptist church there.

Their reception will follow at an historic inn. The party will feature a pineapple motif, chosen by the couple because it symbolizes hospitality, and will be decorated with the colors blush, white, and silver. The bride’s tulle dress and bridesmaids’ chiffon dresses are classic designs, and Matthews plans to give all of her sorority sisters corsages to wear. She expects they will join in a sorority sing and fraternity serenade at the reception.

The couple plans to cut a pink citrus-blossom cake and serve three different kinds of cupcakes to their guests.

The groom and his groomsmen will all sport bolls of North Carolina cotton in the buttonholes of their tuxedos, plus pink-and-white bow ties custom made by High Cotton Ties. The couple were finalists in the Raleigh tiemaker’s second annual “Mr. and Mrs. High Cotton” contest, in which customers voted for their favorite engaged couple to win a wedding party’s worth of ties.

For her “something blue,” Matthews plans to carry a monogrammed handkerchief that belonged to her grandmother, who passed away a few years ago.
